Tequila Works, the Madrid-based developer best known for Rime, Gylt, and Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, has filed for insolvency, citing "prolonged market conditions."

The details:

  • As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the studio's founders stepped down alongside the news, and Térence Mosca has taken over as general manager. Mosca said in a statement that he was "proud of what [the team] has accomplished together," but due to "prolonged market conditions," the developer had to resort to filing for insolvency. “Since its founding in 2009, Tequila Works’ game-development philosophy has always focused on ‘creating things with gusto’,” the statement reads. “We are doing everything we can to provide support and guidance to our teams during this difficult time.”

  • Tequila Works announced its restructuring last month, which resulted in a "small number" of layoffs. The studio also confirmed that it had canceled an unannounced project to concentrate on a single ongoing project.

  • The developer's first title, Deadlight, was released in 2012, followed by Rime in 2017, Gylt in 2019, and Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story last year, which was published under Riot's now-defunct Riot Forge label. Chinese tech giant Tencent became a majority shareholder, which the studio stated would help fund its growth and original projects.
