Capcom is working on a VR mode for Resident Evil 4 Remake (RE4 Remake) before its March release.
The details:
- Capcom has announced via the Biohazard (the seriesβ name in Japan) Twitter account that a virtual reality mode is in development for the PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) on PlayStation 5 consoles.
- The mode will be free DLC to all game and headset owners, with no specific release date set. As it has only recently begun development, the mode is likely to arrive after RE4 Remake's March release date, and it is unlikely to be available on other VR platforms, as RE8's VR mode is also a PS VR2 exclusive.
- RE4 Remake will be released on March 24, 2023, for both last and current-generation platforms, continuing Capcom's recent trend of remaking older entries in the series with new gameplay and visuals.
In other Capcom news:
- Capcom announced that it is on track to sell the most games in its history this fiscal year. From March to December 2022, the company reports that it has sold 29.1 million units, with the upcoming release of RE4 Remake expected to bring the total unit sales up to 40 million.
- Street Fighter 6 will be the exclusive game for Capcom's Pro Tour, the franchise's competitive circuit. The prize pool for the circuit will be $2 million USD, with $1 million going to the winner of the final event, Capcom Cup X. The previous Pro Tour and Cup only had a $300,000 prize pool, so Capcom is going all in on esports after the release of Street Fighter 6 in June 2023.
