Following yesterday's announcement that Arkane Austin would be shutting down, it was revealed that Redfall's long-awaited offline mode update would be released this month.

The details:

  • According to IGN, Arkane Austin was still working on Redfall's offline mode, which it started working on in response to community criticism of the game's always-online requirement. It is claimed that its release was planned for this month before the studio's closure yesterday.

  • The closure appeared unexpected by its employees, as the team was said to have been working on future content and updates "until very recently," including Hero Pass characters set to arrive in October.

  • The mode may never be completed, as Arkane Austin stated that all development on the game had ceased with its closure. This means that should Microsoft shut down Redfall's servers in the future, all players will be unable to access the game.

  • Despite the poorly received launch, former Bethesda head of publishing Pete Hines stated that the company would work with Arkane Austin to make Redfall a "good game," comparing it to the launches of The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76.
