Following the release of its second season, Paramount+ has officially canceled the TV adaptation of the Halo franchise, and Microsoft is said to be looking for a new partner to continue the show.

The details:

  • As reported by Variety, Paramount+ has confirmed in a statement that the live-action series will not receive a third season, wishing its former partners all the best in the future. “We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work,” a spokesperson said. “We wish everyone the best going forward.”

  • Variety has also shared that a source familiar with the situation claims that despite the series' mixed reception from fans of the franchise, Xbox, 343 Industries, and Amblin TV are currently looking for a new home for the show. This does not guarantee a third season, but given the popularity of the IP, it is highly likely.

  • Despite high viewership numbers when it debuted in March 2022, the show received mixed reviews from viewers due to its tone, writing, and pacing, prompting many to abandon it early on. Many long-time Halo fans were also surprised when protagonist Master Chief revealed his face by removing his iconic helmet only a few episodes into the series, before being seen naked and engaging in sexual acts that even confused the game's co-creator Marcus Lehto.
