Layoffs confirmed at Tiny Tina's Wonderlands co-developer Lost Boys Interactive
Developers at Lost Boys Interactive, best known for assisting in the creation of Gearbox’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, have confirmed that the studio has been affected by Embracer Group’s ongoing layoffs.
The details:
Former producer Jared Pace revealed on LinkedIn that he was let go from the studio last week, along with a "sizable portion" of other employees. Speaking with Aftermath, Pace stated that it has "affected all disciplines at all levels," but it is unclear how many of its 400 employees have been directly affected.
Art Director Spicer McElroy also confirmed on LinkedIn that he, too, had been laid off, stating that it was a "absolutely fantastic time full of challenges and beautiful friendships," and that studios should look to hire Lost Boys artists "immediately."
Lost Boys was founded in 2017 and has contributed to Diablo IV, The Quiet Man, and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. It was acquired by Gearbox in 2022 and has since doubled in size over the last few years.
Embracer, Gearbox's parent company, has struggled since a $2 billion Saudi investment collapsed last year, forcing it to go through a restructuring program that has resulted in the layoff of approximately a thousand employees and the closure of multiple studios.
Other recent layoffs:
Discord has laid off 17% of its workforce after admitting to having increased its headcount too quickly in recent years.
Livestreaming platform Twitch has confirmed that around 500 employees were laid off last week, equal to 35% of its workforce.
Unity began 2024 by confirming plans to lay off 25% of its current workforce in a company-wide restructuring by March.
