Gotham Knights studio WB Games Montréal reportedly hit with layoffs
Gotham Knights developer Warner Bros. Games Montréal has reportedly laid off almost a hundred employees, mainly affecting subcontractors.
The details:
As reported by Radio-Canada (via Game Developer), the studio has laid off 99 employees, the majority of whom were Keywords Studios subcontractors that worked on its QA team. It is estimated that the cuts will affect roughly one-third of the studio's workforce, which previously consisted of around 240 employees.
According to an anonymous employee, the cuts were announced in a video call last Monday, and those affected were given the option of receiving additional assistance in finding new work or joining a "contact list" for future projects. However, it is claimed that the company stated that the Montréal studio was unlikely to begin work on new projects before 2026, leaving those affected feeling "stressed and depressed."
The layoffs come shortly after it was announced that sister studio Rocksteady would be stepping away from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, marking the end of its content roadmap. WB Games Montreal had previously provided development assistance for the game, including carrying out QA.
