A former Activision Blizzard executive has sued the publisher, accusing it of discrimination against "old white guys."

The details:

  • As reported by Law360 (via GamesIndustry.biz), the former employee joined the company in 2014 and was laid off as part of its restructuring last year. The 57-year-old plaintiff has filed a lawsuit against the publisher, accusing it of age discrimination and violating California's whistleblower protection law.

  • According to the lawsuit, former CEO Bobby Kotick allegedly stated in a leadership conference that one of the company's major issues was that "there are too many old white guys," causing two executives to leave the publisher "based, at least in part, on Kotick's ageist remarks.”

  • The plaintiff also claims that after the executives left, the company ignored their recommendations to fill the vacant position and instead gave it to a non-white employee who criticized his work to the point where his "merit-based" salary became the lowest it had ever been.

  • It is also alleged that a female employee in the Central Tech department went to HR with a complaint about her pay increase and made defamatory statements about the plaintiff, causing him to be ignored when filing his complaint about the individual. He is now seeking compensation for a "loss of earnings, negative impact on career advancement, reputational damage, emotional distress, and wrongful termination, as well as legal costs."
