Sega and Sports Interactive have announced that Football Manager 25 has been canceled after being delayed twice due to development issues, with the developer now focusing on next year’s entry.

The details:

  • Sports Interactive confirmed in a statement on X that FM25 has been scrapped and apologized to fans as work on FM26 begins. “For the large numbers of you who pre-ordered FM25, we thank you enormously for your trust and support – we’re very sorry to have let you down,” the post reads. “We know this will come as a huge disappointment, especially given that the release date has already moved twice, and you have been eagerly anticipating the first gameplay reveal. We can only apologise for the time it has taken to communicate this decision. Due to stakeholder compliance, including legal and financial regulations, today was the earliest date that we could issue this statement.”

  • SI explained that the decision to cancel the game was due to the studio's inability to "achieve the required standard," as well as its user interface and overall player experience falling short of expectations. It claims that, while it could release the game in an unfinished state and issue patches later, it believes this would not be the "right thing to do," and that delaying it further would push it too far into the current football season.

  • As mentioned in the statement, the game has been delayed twice, first from an early November release to later that month, and then to March 2025. The studio chose to postpone the game to "ensure the game quality and experience meets your expectations and our very high standards." The title was set to be built in Unity for the first time and feature improved visuals to serve as a "starting point for the studio's next 20 years."
