Square Enix has confirmed that it plans to make the entire Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy available on multiple platforms, and its director, Naoki Hamaguchi, has now stressed to fans that the strategy will not impact the development of the third and final entry in the series.

The details:

  • Originally released as timed PlayStation exclusives, FF7 Remake and its sequel, Rebirth, have since been made available or are planned to be released on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. This comes after Square Enix reported a weaker than expected commercial performance for the series, prompting it to drop the exclusive plans in favor of multi-platform launches for its future games.
  • Speaking with Easy Allies, Hamaguchi spoke about Square’s multi-platform plan, confirming that it would not impact the development of the third game in the series. “We do have designated teams working on each platform so that our multiplatform approach won’t impact the development whatsoever,” the director said.
  • However, while there are currently no issues with the Switch 2 and PC versions of the game, Hamaguchi has revealed that the Xbox Series X/S version has been a challenge due to a “lack of memory.” While not specified, he stated that this is an issue that other publishers have encountered, suggesting that it could be related to the weaker Series S console, which notably caused issues for Larian Studios with Baldur’s Gate 3.
