Final Fantasy Tactics remaster not in development, says series creator
Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of the Final Fantasy Tactics franchise, has denied that a remaster of the first installment is in the works, despite years of speculation.
The details:
In response to a fan's request on X to include a new system in the rumored remaster, Matsuno stated that there are currently "no plans for remastering," and that the fan would need to send the request to Square Enix. It's worth noting that Matsuno hasn't worked for Square since the mid-2000s, though fans anticipated his return as he helped develop content for Final Fantasy XIV and the Tactics Ogre remaster in 2022.
Rumors of a remaster surfaced in 2021 after an Nvidia database was leaked, revealing a long list of games from various publishers coming to its GeForce Now service, some of which were unannounced at the time. Several titles on the list have since been revealed, but no remaster of Tactics has been confirmed.
Theatrhythm Final Bar Line producer Ichiro Hazama added to the rumors earlier this year when he stated that the "Tactics team is incredibly busy at the moment" and that they are "heavily involved in another project," leading many to believe that this unnamed project was related to the remaster.
Following the release and subsequent closure of the mobile title Tactics S in 2014, the Tactics series has been dormant for over a decade, with its characters appearing in other franchise games such as the soon-to-be-closed Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia.
