It appears that E3 might not be coming back for the next two years following the cancellation of the 2023 show earlier this year.

The details:

  • As spotted by ResetEra user Rösti, E3’s owner, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), had booked the Los Angeles Convention Center for the weeks beginning June 11, 2024, and June 3, 2025, according to a report from the Los Angeles City Tourism Board back in October. In a new report, the board has included a footnote claiming that both shows have been canceled.
  • The ESA has issued a statement in response to the news, stating that, despite the city claiming that the shows are canceled, the ESA is still "currently having conversations about E3 2024" and that "no final decisions about the event have been made at this time." When previously asked if the show would return after this year's cancellation, ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis avoided answering directly, stating that the organization was "committed to providing an industry platform for marketing and convening" and wanted to "find that right balance that meets the needs of the industry.”
  • E3 2023 was canceled after numerous publishers pulled out, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo. On the other hand, Summer Game Fest went ahead as planned, with some of the industry's biggest names either participating in the main showcase or hosting their own shows under the event's banner. According to reports, the show has been such a success that Keighley has already announced that it will return in June 2024 after "record-breaking" numbers.
