It has been announced that Lost Soul Aside, an action game heavily inspired by Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy XV, will be released next year. The project was started nine years ago by a single developer and has since been built by a Sony-backed studio.

The details:

  • Back in 2016, Chinese developer Yang Bing shared footage of a prototype of Lost Soul Aside that used stock assets but featured impressive combat, with the entire project bearing strong resemblances to DMC FF15 in terms of gameplay and visuals. This caught the attention of Sony, leading it to give the developer the opportunity to start his own studio, Ultizero Games, as part of its China Hero project.

  • Three years after its last trailer, new footage of Lost Soul Aside has been revealed, along with confirmation that it will be released for PS5 and PC via Steam sometime next year. The title will be published by Sony, so it's unclear whether it will ever make its way to Xbox.

  • The trailer shows Kazer, the game's protagonist, battling a large ice monster with the assistance of an unnamed female companion. As expected, the DMC influence is immediately apparent in its fast, stylish combat that emphasizes dodging and chaining together flashy attacks.

  • Details of the game's story and gameplay systems have yet to be revealed, but according to its Steam store description, Kazer will be tasked with saving his sister "and the whole of humankind from dimensional invaders." The summary also states that players will be able to upgrade their weapons and gain new abilities along the way.
