Danganronpa developer Spike Chunsoft likely affected by recent ransomware attack
Following a ransomware attack on Kadokawa Corporation last month, the company confirmed that personal information from all employees at its subsidiary Dwango, which houses Spike Chunsoft, was likely leaked online.
The details:
Last week, Kadokawa confirmed that it had been the victim of a ransomware attack in June, with a group named Black Suit claiming responsibility on its deep web site. The gang threatened to release data publicly from its 1.5 TB haul if it did not receive payment by July 1. The data included “contracts, legal documents, user and employee information, business plans, project data, financial records, and other internal papers.”
As reported by Automaton, Kadokawa has issued another statement regarding the hack, sharing details on what it believes was leaked. This includes information belonging to all Dwango employees, legal documents such as contracts with its partners, and personal data of some students, parents, and teachers at the company's online schools.
Dwango owns Spike Chunsoft, the developer behind Danganronpa, Mystery Dungeon, and the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Sparking Zero, meaning its employees were most likely affected by the attack. It is also the owner of Niconico, a popular Japanese video-sharing site that suspended services in June following the breach.
Kadokawa also owns Elden Ring and Souls studio FromSoftware, but it has not been disclosed whether the developer was impacted by the security breach.
