Only a couple of days after its release, the closed-testing build of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has been leaked online as a torrent download.
The details:
The limited test build of CS2 was released alongside the title's announcement on March 22 and is currently only available to a select group of players, including content creators and those involved in the franchise's esports scene. An anonymous player with direct access to the build, according to vx-underground, has now leaked the game online in a playable state. Since it's unable to connect to Valve's official CS2 servers, the build can only be played against AI bots in single-player modes.
This is not the first time Valve has had to deal with leaks for one of its iconic franchises, with Half-Life 2 experiencing one of gaming's largest leaks before its release. A beta version of the game was released in October 2003, a full year before the game's official release in November 2004, and despite being incomplete, it resembled the final product in many ways. Valve was also hit by a massive leak earlier this year, with assets from several Source-powered games, including Team Fortress 2, being shared online, providing fans with access to cut and unfinished content.
Other recent leaks:
A short video of Crash Team Rumble, a Crash Bandicoot MOBA, has leaked online. The clip takes place in the final 30 seconds of a multiplayer game, with several franchise characters serving as teammates and opponents. The game will be available on all major platforms on June 20, 2023, for $29.99 or $39.99 (USD), depending on the edition.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2, developed by Insomniac Games, will be released in September. When responding to a fan on Twitter, Venom voice actor Tony Todd inadvertently leaked the date, also stating that "massive publicity" would be arriving in August, implying that Insomniac is opting to go all-in on marketing in a short period rather than a longer pre-release strategy.
