It has been claimed that Capcom is working on a new main entry in the Dead Rising franchise that will see the return of original protagonist Frank West, following the success of Dead Rising’s remaster last year.

The details:

  • According to MP1st and VGC, the new Dead Rising game has been in development since at least 2023 under the codename "Rec" and will not be a remaster or remake but a full new main entry in the series. It’s believed that the title will be a direct sequel to the original Dead Rising and set prior to the events of the game’s 2010 sequel, Dead Rising 2, though this has not been confirmed.
  • The game will reportedly take place in Hollywood, primarily within a movie studio lot. The main villain is described as an "extravagant and deranged film director" who forces Frank West and other survivors into various trials in pursuit of filming his "perfect movie." Some of the survivors will reportedly be actors from the film, with existing characters such as Isabella Keyes expected to return, assisting Frank with dealing with a new type of zombie virus.
  • It’s said that the game will follow the classic Dead Rising gameplay formula, with heavy influence from last year’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. This includes using Frank's camera to take photos, the inclusion of a time limit, and the return of psychopaths. The report highlights one plot point in which a survivor, Frank, rescues eventually turns out to be the director's assistant, later becoming a psychopath "tasked with filming everything while having a bomb strapped to his body."
