It has been announced that a film adaptation of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise is now in the works at Paramount, with the game publisher directly involved.

The details:

  • As reported by Deadline, the project will be a live-action movie, with Paramount chairman and CEO David Ellison sharing his love of the popular FPS franchise in a new statement. "As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty, this is truly a dream come true," said Ellison. "From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I've spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love. Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don't take lightly."
  • The film is the studio’s latest effort after 2022’s critically acclaimed Top Gun: Maverick, but it’s currently unknown who is directly involved in its production as of yet, or if the company plans to follow an existing plot from the Modern Warfare and Black Ops franchises.
  • COD is not the only major gaming franchise with a film adaptation in the works, with A24 currently working on both the Death Stranding and Elden Ring movies, while Universal is planning to create a film based on classic arcade racer OutRun. Nintendo also has a few projects in development, including its The Legend of Zelda movie and a follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
