Blizzard removes another Overwatch 2 PvE mode after just three months
Blizzard has announced that the Hero Mastery Gauntlet PvE mode will be removed from Overwatch 2 after only three months as "it hasn't resonated with players."
The details:
The publisher announced the removal in a forum post, confirming that it will no longer be available after Season 11 is released on June 18. "As we prepare for Season 11, we've taken the time to evaluate a variety of game modes based on how much they are being played," the statement reads. "Hero Mastery Gauntlet was intended to bring the high score-chasing excitement of Hero Mastery missions into a multiplayer format. Unfortunately, it hasn't resonated with players in the ways that we hoped."
The tower defense mode pitted players against AI-controlled robots in a round-based structure, complete with Lifetime Challenges and a scoreboard of the top 500 best performers. Blizzard also stated that Hero Mastery Solo Courses would not be removed from the game, with more to come in the future.
Overwatch 2's PvE plans have changed several times since its release, with the highly anticipated Hero Mode being canceled last year due to development issues. The addition of PvE was viewed as the next step in Overwatch's evolution and one of the primary reasons for the decision to create a sequel, but it was reported earlier this year that plans for all PvE content had been abandoned.
