It has been spotted that a new patch for Radical Entertainment’s cult classic title Prototype has been quietly released, fueling rumors that the franchise could be getting a remaster in the near future.

The details:

  • As spotted by fans via Reddit, popular mod Prototype Fix was unexpectedly broken recently, prompting modders to investigate any potential changes to the 2009 title due to the importance of the mod for running games on modern PCs. It turns out, the game was quietly updated on September 29, but without any official news post explaining any adjustments.
  • After investigating the update, fans discovered that it now includes credits for Iron Galaxy, the studio best known for its work on popular remasters such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy and the recently released Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4. It was later discovered that additional new credits for Activision teams had been added, as well as a previously absent test map and mention of a Ubisoft Connect version of the game.
  • With the changes coming to the original game, it’s believed that the studio is likely using the code in the remaster or potentially opting for a “hybrid” remaster similar to Oblivion Remastered, which uses Unreal Engine 5 for its visuals. It’s also noted that word of a Prototype remaster spread online earlier this year alongside accurate claims of Black Ops 7 being in development, lending more credibility to the rumor.
