Independant game developer, Fat Dino, has created a fan-made game based around a character that everyone has been waiting for: Shrek! Or, a familiar "Unknown Ogre".

In Fat Dino's "Unknown Ogre Simulator", you take control of a green humanoid in an attempt to protect your swamp from fairytale creatures that are swarming at you in waves. The game consists of skill management, looking mechanics, and shards to collect that provide abilities and passives. You'll have all the right tools to make enemies get out of your swamp!

The enemies included so far are the gingerbread men, Puss in Boots, and Pinnochio, which will attack your ogre with ranged and melee attacks. Your own Shrek will have various abilities such as a tornado, ground slam, and even dance! The UI allows for five different abilities to be accessible at once.

As with any classic RPG, "Unknown Ogre Simulator" will have monster drops. Upon killing certain enemies, there is a chance for them to drop abilities or passives that you can use to defend your home, and when a horde of enemies is defeated you will collect 'shards' that you can use at the iconic outhouse to level-up your Shrek.

The project was created using Unreal Engine 4 as Fat Dino states that they're comfortable with the UE4 engine and don't need to utilize any of the Unreal Engine 5 features in order to achieve what they are after in their games.

They imported the Shrek model into Unreal Engine, and from there they used the Unreal Engine 'Dynamic Locomotion' pack and Mixamo to add animations to the character. To rig the Shrek model to the Unreal Engine skeleton, they headed back into Blender to ensure the character moved smoothly.

To create the Swamp they used Vertex painting, mega scans, and "too much free time"!
