Gameloft Montreal is seeking a new narrative designer to join the team working on DISNEY DREAMLIGHT VALLEY, a brand cross-platform hybrid life-sim/adventure game already in early access! Rich with quests, exploration, and engaging activities featuring iconic Disney and Pixar friends, Disney Dreamlight Valley is a 100%-original Gameloft Montreal production, designed by a passionate team just waiting for you to join them!

The Narrative Designer's role is to advocate for the storytelling elements of the game, acting as a key resource for all matters related to the narrative (history, structure, characters, context, dialogue, etc.). The Narrative Designer works in close collaboration with the project's level-design team at each stage of development to foster a strong cooperative dynamic between the game mechanics, design and structure, and the narrative assets used to support and improve those elements.

The successful candidate will work with the Narrative Director and an international team of dedicated, friendly and talented writers.

Main Tasks:

  • Write dialogues between characters and the player

  • Bring to life the voices of popular Disney characters

  • Develop engaging narrative content in line with the philosophy and vision of the game design

  • Contribute to the development of stories that feature compelling, multifaceted Disney characters who have strong motivations and consistent dramatic arcs

  • Merge strong narrative layers with systemic features and balance them

  • Produce and update design documents for all narrative elements

  • Identify narrative problems and generate creative solutions with colleagues

  • Participate in our writers' rooms and offer and accept comments respectfully

  • Carry out various fun tasks related to the narrative, upon the request of the wider Gameloft community

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or passionately self-taught) in English, Creative Writing, Theatre, or Film and/or professional experience as a writer in the video game industry or another dramatic medium

  • A strong editorial eye and an ability to craft sharp, clear dialogue

  • Able to design clear and coherent stories for diverse demographics through excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Understanding of visual theory, storytelling, plot, structure, and character

  • Knowledge and passion for the history and theories governing interactive storytelling, including how story is used to support game mechanics and enhance player retention

  • Passionate about gaming, boasting an in-depth knowledge of games and the fundamentals of their design, game culture, and the entertainment industry as a whole

  • Mastery of the English language

  • Able to present a clear narrative concept and design using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Miro or other related tools

  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and an awareness of how to navigate limitations and work flexibly with available resources

  • Strong attention to detail
