Veteran Dragon Quest producer reportedly reassigned following delays
Yu Miyake, a producer on the Dragon Quest franchise for 22 years, has reportedly stepped down and will now lead Square Enix’s mobile development division.
The details:
According to Bloomberg's sources, Miyake will now oversee the development of Square's mobile games, having previously worked on Dragon Quest since joining the company in 1992. The decision is said to come after multiple delays to Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate as Square reorganizes its teams to focus on internal AAA development.
It’s believed that Yosuke Saito, best known as a producer on the Nier series, is currently the top candidate to replace Miyake. Saito has previously served as an executive producer on Dragon Quest XI and has worked on both Final Fantasy XIV and Babylon’s Fall.
Dragon Quest XII was announced in 2021, as part of the series' 35th anniversary livestream. According to series creator Yuji Horii, the game will have a darker tone than previous entries and changes to its classic turn-based combat system.
