Sources claim that Sony is currently developing a new pair of earbuds and a headset for use with the PlayStation 5 (PS5).
The details:
- According to Insider Gaming, Sony is working on wireless earbuds and a new wireless headset for the PS5, which will be released near the end of the fiscal year 2023-24.
- The earbuds, codenamed "Project Nomad," will come with a case for USB-C charging and updating and have a five-hour battery life, similar to Apple's AirPods. The earbuds' price is currently unknown, but it is likely to be in the range of a standard premium headset, which can cost between $100 and $200 USD.
- The headset, currently known as Voyager, will be available around the same time as the earbuds and will include many of the features found on Sony's INZONE H7 gaming headset. The headset, like the earbuds, has no price information as of yet, but given that it has similar functionality to the INZONE H7, it could be in the $200 range.
What else is going on at PlayStation?
- The PS5 has been on the market for over two years; however, due to worldwide shortages, players have struggled to get their hands on the console, resulting in scalping with prices in the thousands. Sony announced earlier this year that the shortages were over, with enough consoles now in production to meet demand, causing the PS5 to be the most purchased console in Europe during January 2023, surpassing the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S.
- The PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) will be available for $550 USD on February 22nd. A total of 37 titles, including 13 new games, will be available within the first month of release, with a total of 37 titles available by the end of March 2023. Ahead of the headset's release, Sony has also released an unboxing video for the standard bundle.
- During the first half of 2023, Sony will reportedly host both a State of Play event and a new showcase. The State of Play will be "low-key," with many of PlayStation's biggest titles on display, following the company's decision not to attend E3 for the fourth year in a row.
