Microsoft has confirmed that it is not going ahead with its plans to release its games for $80 for now, instead pricing The Outer Worlds 2 at $70.

The details:

  • Last month, Xbox shared that it planned to release Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 as its first-ever $80 title, with its other games following suit. The company cited "market conditions and the rising cost of development" as the reasoning behind the controversial change but confirmed that the game would still be available via Game Pass.
  • However, Microsoft appears to have changed its mind, recently confirming that The Outer Worlds 2 will now cost $70. Those who have pre-ordered the game at its previous $80 price tag will be able to secure a refund from their respective storefront. “We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore and will keep our full-priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99—in line with current market conditions,” an Xbox spokesperson said.
  • It’s still unknown if the change is part of a wider plan to scrap the $80 price tag plans for all of its games or if Xbox has chosen to reduce the price of The Outer Worlds 2 for another reason.
