Following reports that the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may be canceled due to continued silence from Embracer Group, it has been claimed that at least a few developers are still working on the project at Saber Interactive.

The details:

  • According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, he has spoken with two Saber Interactive developers who have stated that they are still working on the game after Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb claimed that the remake was not being worked on. Schreier also clarified that he does not know if the game will ever be released to the public or if it will look or play as intended, and it is unknown how many developers are still involved overall.

  • During an earnings call earlier this month, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors was asked about the project's current status, which he declined to speak about, arguing that "anything I say to this becomes a headline." This comes after reports last year that development had been halted due to a lack of progress, and that its original developer, Aspyr Media, had withdrawn entirely from the project.

  • The remake's progress was also called into question when Sony began removing tweets and trailers related to the title from its official accounts, which it later claimed was due to music licensing issues. The response led to even more confusion and the belief that the game had been canceled, as other content on Sony's channels still featured Star Wars tracks and remains accessible to the public to this day.
