Sony has filed yet another bizarre generative AI patent, this time for podcasts that would be hosted by PlayStation characters from games in a user’s console library.

The details:

  • The patent, titled “LLM-Based Generative Podcasts for Gamers,” was recently granted last month. It outlines a system that would generate unique audio content addressing topics directly relevant to your PS5 console, including details of new firmware patches, DLC content, friend updates, and more. However, the podcast-like content would instead feature the voice of various PlayStation characters such as God of War’s Kratos, which would be generated using AI.
  • According to Sony, each player’s podcast would be unique based on their game library, with several different characters potentially appearing in the same content, leading to crossovers that have never happened before. “Video game platforms currently lack the ability to provide unique and targeted content to gamers to update the gamers about things that are happening on the platform,” the patent reads. “There are currently no adequate solutions to the foregoing computer-related technological problem.”
  • Players would also be able to customize the content should they wish to leave out or highlight specific news. For example, users could state to include recommendations for new games to play but choose to avoid hearing about the recent activity of their friends.
  • Last month, Sony filed another patent, which focused on using generative AI to guide players when they get stuck inside of a game. It outlined an AI-powered assistant that could provide accurate tips on how to get past a certain area or objective and even take full control of the game to complete the task.
