Roblox announces mandatory transition back to in-office working
Roblox founder and CEO David Baszucki has announced that most employees must return to working from its San Mateo headquarters by July 2024 or seek alternative employment.
The details:
In a new letter to the company's employees titled "The Future of How We Work Together at Roblox," Baszucki states that those who are unwilling to begin working from the main Roblox office in San Mateo, CA for at least three days a week will need to look for work elsewhere.
Employees will have until January 16 of next year to decide whether to transition to in-office work or leave the company with a severance package and six months of healthcare. The company has stated that it is willing to cover relocation costs for those who live a long distance away from the office.
Some employees, such as customer support and moderation staff, as well as those with "niche skill sets or significant institutional knowledge" such as familiarity with Roblox's systems, will still be able to work completely remotely.
Although Baszucki believes that working virtually will eventually be as productive as traditional in-person work, he states that he has seen firsthand that since many of the company's employees returned to the office, ideas have been much more innovative and work has been much less exhausting for everyone, resulting in the decision.
