Resident Evil 7 was bought fewer than 2,000 times on iOS, report claims
Capcom

Following the release of Resident Evil 7 on iOS earlier this month, the game appears to have flopped on the mobile platform, selling fewer than 2,000 units so far.

The details:

  • As reported by MobileGamer.biz, Appmagic's sales data estimates that RE7's free trial has been downloaded over 83,000 times, with only 2.4% of players paying $20 to unlock the rest of the title.

  • Capcom earned an estimated $28,140 from sales, but this figure excludes Apple's 30% cut and suggests that fewer than 2,000 people purchased the game even after some "generous rounding up."

  • RE7 is not the only AAA release to reportedly bomb on iOS; RE4, RE Village, Death Stranding, and Assassin's Creed Mirage were all said to have sold fewer than 30,000 units combined, despite hundreds of thousands of trial downloads. Other outlets reported higher figures, but the estimates were still disappointing.

  • The low sales can be attributed to various factors, beginning with the games being exclusive to higher-end Apple devices, with the standard iPhone 15 unable to run the Resident Evil titles. Also, the games available can be purchased at a lower price on other platforms, which are likely to be owned by those with higher-end smartphones.

  • It has also been argued that the experience provided by the games suffers when played on a mobile device, with Resident Evil and Death Stranding relying heavily on immersion, whereas AC Mirage benefits greatly from being played with a traditional controller.
