It has been reported that the recently released Pokémon Trading Card Game mobile title, TCG Pocket, generated more than $12 million USD in in-game sales during its first four days on the market.

The details:

  • As reported by Mobilegamer.biz, mobile market analytics firm AppMagic estimates that the new mobile version of the long-running Pokémon TCG generated around $3 million per day after its launch on October 30. The total earnings from its first four days on the market are said to have been $12.1 million, with purchases on iOS and Android amounting to $10.5 million and $1.6 million, respectively.

  • These figures also show that the game is outperforming Niantic's 2016 title, Pokémon GO, which, while not as popular as it once was, still earns an impressive $1 million per day on average. However, it is worth noting that Pokémon GO does also generate additional revenue outside of the app, including its online store available in web browsers.

  • The game's official X account announced over the weekend that it had been downloaded ten million times. AppMagic estimates that while Japan accounts for only about 4% of downloads, it accounts for 45% of total revenue, and the US ranks second in spending, accounting for 25% of its earnings.

  • In-game spending is very popular among Japanese gamers, with many popular mobile games using "Gacha" systems that grant players random items in order to entice more users to pay for additional attempts to obtain what they want. Pokémon TCG Pocket uses a similar feature in that players can receive a free digital card park containing random Pokémon cards once every 12 hours, or they can buy more with real money.
