PlayStation will not release any "major" titles in its existing franchises in 2024
Sony has stated that it will release "no existing major franchise titles" until at least April 2025.
The details:
Sony's recent financial results for the third quarter of FY 23/24 revealed that the company expects a drop in PS5 sales in the coming fiscal year as it will not release any "major" titles in its current franchises. Sony President Hiroki Totoki cited God of War: Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 as examples of the types of games the company would not release.
So far, we know that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released sometime in 2025, which means that if Sony considers this one of the aforementioned major releases, it will most likely arrive later in the year.
Since Totoki specifically stated that this was only for existing IPs, it does not rule out the possibility of new franchises like Firewalk Studios' Concord, as well as remasters and ports of its other first-party titles. Sony will also continue to work on its live service plans, which have been a long-term focus.
