Blizzard has announced a massive revamp for Overwatch 2, with the game being rebranded simply as Overwatch, receiving a new year-long story arc, 10 new heroes arriving in 2026, and a dedicated version in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The details:

  • As revealed during the Overwatch Spotlight presentation, Blizzard is dropping the “2” from Overwatch 2, framing 2026 as the start of a “new, story-driven era” for the franchise built around larger, expansion-style updates. The first of these updates, The Reign of Talon, is a year-long story arc that begins on February 10 and will be spread across six seasons, with the story of the Talon organization’s rise told through in-game events, cinematics, and more.
  • Overwatch will also receive five new heroes at the release of the update, followed by one additional hero per season for the rest of the year, resulting in a total of 10 new heroes arriving this year alone. The first batch of heroes includes two new supports and damage dealers and a tank. Changes to the overall class system are also coming, with new “sub-roles” that grant additional passive abilities to each character.
  • A Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is in the works and is set to arrive in April alongside the second season update. Much like its Switch version, the updated port will feature full crossplay with all platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
