Activision has given fans a first look at Modern Warfare III’s maps, which include remastered versions of fan favorites from the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2, as well as faster movement than last year's MWII.

The details:

  • Sledgehammer Games has released a new "Intel Drop" along with a video featuring MW3's art director Matt Abbott and design director Zach Hodson discussing map remastering for a modern title while retaining beloved elements and themes. “There are places where the metrics of the level are adjusted to fit more modern gameplay,” Hodson explained, “but for the most part, it’s going to feel incredibly similar. The biggest changes are in a fidelity sense.”
  • The majority of changes concern lighting and details, while others affect map flow, with previously deadly water now accessible on maps such as Estate, and certain angles being removed, such as the hole in the floor in the center of Skidrow. Doors from modern titles will also be added, but it appears that they will be rarer and placed in specific locations around the map.
  • As the player leaps around the iconic Highrise, we get our first look at the movement system. Mantling appears to be much faster than in MWII, with the ability to chain them together, and it appears that hanging from ledges may be removed entirely. Overall, it appears to address the majority of the issues fans had with the slower movement system last year.
