It has been claimed that the majority of Microsoft employees will be losing free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate access starting next year, with only Xbox staff continuing to receive the benefit.

The details:

  • As reported by The Verge, Microsoft is starting to inform most of its 238,000 employees about the change, instead offering them 12 months of the subscription service at a discounted price from its internal store beginning in January 2024.

  • Those not affected by the situation are those employed by Xbox and Microsoft Gaming; however, those losing access expressed their dissatisfaction, prompting Xbox boss Phil Spencer to claim that he had not been informed of the changes and would investigate them.

  • Given that the overall price of all Game Pass tiers was recently raised, with Ultimate now costing $2 more for a month's subscription, the planned internal discounted price may be in line with the old pricing. Following a request from The Verge, Xbox has yet to publicly respond to the situation.
