It appears that Konami’s plans for another Metal Gear Solid (MGS) collection may have been leaked from its very own website.

The details:

  • The official MGS website has hidden placeholder buttons for MGS 4, 5, and Peace Walker, three titles that are missing from the first collection, which will be released on October 24, 2023, according to Twitter user Nitroid. Each button contains cover images for the respective games but does not link to Konami's existing game pages. IGN has since stated that it "understands this lineup for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is accurate" and has also requested a comment from Konami on the leak, though the publisher has yet to respond.
  • If the leak is correct, this will be the first time MGS 4 has been released on a different platform after only being available on the PlayStation 3 since its release in 2008, meaning many fans have been unable to experience the final chapter of the Metal Gear story. Peace Walker, which was originally released on the PlayStation Portable (PSP), was re-released alongside the MGS HD Collection for the Xbox 360 and PS3, allowing it to be played alongside the rest of the series on modern consoles.
  • It's unclear when Konami plans to release Volume 2 of its MGS collection, but it's expected to be in 2024. When it is released, the majority of the Metal Gear franchise, including those released prior to the first MGS game, will be playable on modern consoles and PC, implying that Konami may take another shot at a new series entry following the departure of its creator, Hideo Kojima, in 2015. Since then, the publisher has released Metal Gear Survive in 2018, which has been panned for its "generic" zombie theme and reused assets from MGS V.
