Konami has confirmed that the second collection of Metal Gear Solid rereleases is still in the works, despite no updates since the release of Vol. 1 in 2023. However, fans will need to wait “a little longer” to get their hands on it.

The details:

  • Back in October 2023, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 was released, finally making the first five Metal Gear games playable on modern platforms. Featuring the original 1984 Metal Gear and its follow-up as well as the first free Metal Gear Solid titles, the collection was a hit despite a rough launch, with praise directed at its presentation, ease of access, and bonus content.
  • After years of silence from Konami, the publisher has finally provided an update on its successor at Tokyo Game Show. Asked about the game by a fan, series producer Noriaki Okamura admitted (translation via @Kuwabara357 on X) that Vol 2 has “certainly taken quite a while now,” but that the studio is “working on it properly.” “Since we called the first installment Vol. 1, it’s only natural to expect a second one, and that’s what we said years ago,” Okamura said. “But, as we’ve repeated several times, we are making it. We’ve been working on it properly while also producing Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. When the time is right, we’d like to share with you all news on not only its progress but also the direction going forward.”
  • However, it sounds like the title isn’t coming any time soon, as the producer stated that fans will need to wait a bit longer for any more news. “I’m sorry, it feels like I always have to say this, but please wait just a little longer,” he said. “How long ‘a little longer’ actually means, it’s hard to say. But the project is moving forward properly, and we believe it’s shaping up to be something really enjoyable. So please wait just a bit more; more information is coming.”
  • It’s still unconfirmed which MGS games will be included in Vol 2, but fans believe that it’s likely that Peace Walker and MGSV will be available given that the former was included in the HD Collection and MGSV was released on last-generation consoles. It’s also possible that the PS3-exclusive MGS4 will finally make its way to other platforms, which could be the reason why Vol. 2 has taken so long, as it heavily relied on the PS3’s architecture.
