The difficulty of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will vary depending on whether players choose the easier, more modern over-the-shoulder control style or the traditional top-down view of the original MGS3.

The details:

  • Speaking with Famitsu (via VGC), creative producer Yuji Korekado confirmed that, while it had originally planned to allow players to switch perspectives at any time during gameplay, it chose to tie it to difficulty settings. “The difficulty level changes drastically depending on the viewpoint. The ‘New Style’ has a wider, more linear field of view, and you can shoot your gun while moving, so the difficulty level was lower than we had expected,” Korekado explained. “However, if we adjusted it to match the ‘New Style’, the ‘Legacy Style’ would become too difficult, so we decided to split the play style in two. The ‘Legacy Style’ is close to the difficulty level of the original version, and we are adjusting the ‘New Style’ from scratch.”

  • The new style perspective makes the game feel more like MGS V, which is more in line with other modern third-person games. MGS3's original perspective was fixed in place, much like its predecessors, which many fans believe made the game much more difficult as, in order to accurately hit enemies, players had to enter a first-person view that held Snake in place. Subsistence, an updated version of the game, added camera changes such as the ability to rotate it in any direction, but it is unclear whether this will be included in the remake.

  • MGS Delta was announced last year, with a PlayStation Blog post stating that it is targeting a 2024 release earlier this year. When asked about a release date, Korekado and producer Noriaki Okamura stated that while the game is fully playable from beginning to end, they do not want to disappoint fans, suggesting that it may arrive later than expected.
