Mario + Rabbids director and Red Dead Redemption lead designer co-found new studio Day 4 Night
Davide Soliani, the director of Mario + Rabbids, has founded a new studio, Day 4 Night, alongside Red Dead Redemption lead designer Christian Cantamessa and former Ubisoft Milan staff.
The details:
Krafton and 1Up Ventures have funded the studio's first project, a new IP co-directed by Soliani and Cantamessa. Ed Fries, co-founder of Xbox and head of 1Up Ventures, has described the project as "easily the most creative thing we have seen in quite some time," with Soliani adding that it will be "a reflection of everything I've ever wanted to experience as a player - joy, adventure, poetry, action, wonder, and the pleasure of working with friends."
Also joining Soliani and Cantamessa at Day 4 Night are former Mario + Rabbids producers Cristina Nava and Gian Marco Zanna, and designer Luca Breda, who have worked with Soliani at Ubisoft Milan. The studio will have locations in Los Angeles and Milan, and its website states it is "focused on delivering deeply heartfelt and original games that innovate in storytelling and design."
Soliani announced in June that he was leaving Ubisoft after 25 years to "embark on a new adventure." His departure was followed in September by Nava, who had been with the company for 16 years, having worked on Ghost Recon, Just Dance, and the recently released Star Wars Outlaws during their time at the company.
