Housemarque, the studio behind the early PS5 hit Returnal, has revealed a graphic novel set in the game's universe following a recent teaser post.

The details:

  • Yesterday, the developer shared a mysterious post on X with an image of eyes looking through shards of glass and the caption "Tomorrow." The post immediately sparked speculation about who that individual was, with many Returnal fans expecting an announcement of a sequel or DLC as they could have been the eyes of astronaut Selene Vassos.

  • It turns out that the announcement is about Returnal: Fallen Asteria, a graphic novel complemented by an artbook and an animated adaptation. The animated version of the first issue is now available on YouTube, while Dark Horse's 88-page graphic novel will be available in bookstores and comic book stores on October 22 and 23, respectively.

  • Housemarque's Eevi Korhonen confirmed in 2022 that the developer is working on an entirely new IP, with some shelved Returnal ideas potentially being used in the project. It's unclear when we'll learn more about the game, but it's safe to assume it will launch on PS5.
