Final Fantasy XIV director Yoshi-P confirms he will continue working on the MMORPG "for at least a good while"

Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida, better known as Yoshi-P, has confirmed that he intends to continue working on the game for the foreseeable future despite his growing involvement in other Square Enix projects.

The details:

  • Speaking with Noisy Pixel, Yoshida shared how he continues to work on FF14 after 12 years while simultaneously working on other projects. He explained that he is “more of a businessman” and that those who are involved in games should not take on their responsibilities if they get bored. “I think my primary purpose is to make games so that we are delivering it to gamers out there, fans, and players who want to consume our product,” he said. “I think that is fundamental, or a minimum requirement that I have because I belong to this company.”
  • Yoshida also clarified that he doesn’t get bored with FF14 due to there still being ideas that have yet to be made reality when it comes to in-game content. He added that he would prefer to do less “management or operational things” and instead devote his time to the game development side. "When asked, do I ever get bored with Final Fantasy 14?" Yoshida said. "I don't think so, because there are a lot of things that I have yet to actualize in 14, things that I want to do, things that I must do, things that require to be taken care of. And so I think for at least a good while, I should be ok."
  • While Yoshi-P is best known for FF14, which he has directed since its massively successful “A Realm Reborn” relaunch in 2013, he is notably the head of internal Square Enix studio Creative Studio III. The studio works on FF14 but was also behind FF16 and is now working on the upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.
