Disco Elysium developer ZA/UM reportedly laying off a quarter of its workforce, expansion canceled
ZA/UM, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium, is reportedly laying off roughly a quarter of its employees and canceling a standalone expansion for the RPG.
The details:
As reported by GLHF, approximately 24 employees are facing redundancy, with the majority of the cuts affecting the team behind "X7," a standalone expansion for Disco Elysium, but other projects and "non-development teams" will also be impacted.
It is also claimed that X7 has been canceled along with the layoffs, with ZA/UM's CEO allegedly stating that the project could have taken "more time and effort than Disco Elysium did" and was "still one to two years away from completion."
This is reportedly the third project canceled or put on hold by the studio in the last three years, with a sequel to Disco Elysium and a new sci-fi IP being internally delayed in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The studio has been embroiled in a legal battle between its management and former key developers of Disco Elysium, who were fired in 2022, over claims of toxic behavior, fraud, and misconduct.
