Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2's next major update, Shadow and Order, has been delayed by more than three months to allow for "large revisions."

The details:

  • Just a few weeks before Shadow and Order's original March 3 release date, Bungie has announced that the update will now be released on June 9, 2026.
  • The developer explained that the long delay is due to several major changes to the content included and that the name of the update will also be changed prior to its release. “We will provide exact details closer to release covering previously announced Weapon Tier Upgrading, but also additions like expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, Pantheon 2.0, Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armors, and more,” the studio wrote in the announcement. “Through June, we will continue to have routine bug fixes and stability improvements, continued portal modifiers, Guardian Games (March), and the return of a more frequent Iron Banner cadence (April).”
  • Despite having a dedicated core fanbase, Destiny 2’s player count and popularity have continued to decline after several underwhelming DLC releases and a general lack of support resulted in players stepping away from the live service shooter. While reviews for the expansion that marked the end of the franchise’s original storyline, The Final Shape, were met with positive reviews, The Edge of Fate and Renegades have since fallen short of expectations.
  • Bungie is currently working on an extraction shooter reboot of Marathon alongside Destiny 2, which is set to release on March 5. Due to the close proximity of the release dates for Shadow and Order and Marathon, fans had predicted the delay for some time, accusing the studio of slowly abandoning the series.
