CD Projekt RED (CDPR) has confirmed that the upcoming DLC for the controversial Cyberpunk 2077 will have the biggest budget out of any DLC the studio has created, including both of The Witcher 3's expansions.
The details:
- CDPR investor relations manager Marek Bugdoł reportedly stated in an interview with Polish news outlet Parkiet (translated summary provided by pablo397 on Reddit) that, in terms of previous DLC created by the developer, Phantom Liberty has the largest budget of all. No cost was given, but given that The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine added 30+ hours of content to the already massive RPG, we imagine it's on the higher side.
- Bugdoł also added that development was going well and that the studio is "comfortable with the current state of work on the expansion", but no further information was given regarding the release date when asked about when the marketing campaign for the expansion would begin.
- It sounds like the DLC will also be accessible to those who have already played through Cyberpunk since its release, while also being easy to get into for more recent players of the title, with Bugdoł saying, "We hope that the new adventures and characters will attract those who are already familiar with Cyberpunk and also encourage many new players to start playing in Night City."
What do we know about Phantom Liberty so far?
- The "spy-thriller" DLC stars Idris Elba as Solomon Reed, while Keanu Reeves returns as Johnny Silverhand. It’s likely that a sizeable chunk of the budget went towards getting the two stars to star in the expansion.
- Reed, a rookie United States of America agent, is a new character in the world of Cyberpunk, and he will be the person in the expansion who the player must trust. There isn't much known about the character right now, but given the surprises Night City provides, he's probably not as trustworthy as one might think.
- Phantom Liberty takes place in a new area called Dogtown, which Reed claims will be "burned to the ground" by the FIA. Unsurprisingly, the new district appears rough, with shootouts between vehicles, laser-wielding armored enemies, and the NCPD's MaxTac units appearing in a teaser trailer.
