Larian Studios has announced that Baldur’s Gate 3’s modding kit is now officially targeted for a release alongside Patch 7 in September, with alpha and beta testing being carried out over the summer.

The details:

  • In a new Steam blog post, Larian confirmed its plans for the toolkit, which will begin with a closed alpha test for select players on June 3. Next month, an additional 1,000 players will be added to the beta test, with a full launch scheduled for September.

  • The alpha period will last a month and will focus on further developing the tools as well as porting existing mods. Participants in the beta will then give feedback on both the modding kit and the mods themselves.

  • Larian is still working on cross-platform mod support for Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation, with mods available officially through Mod.io. Players will still be able to install mods from other sources, as some may contain content that violates Mod.io's guidelines. Console mods will also be met with some restrictions, with those that include "direct level editing and changes to core game elements" being unavailable due to "technical constraints and platform-specific guidelines."

  • Mod support is not the only thing on the way, as Larian is also working on "an in-game photo mode, crossplay, and more fixes.” It is also preparing "some anniversary extravagance" to commemorate the game's success since its release in August 2023.
