Australian esports organization ORDER has laid off at least a dozen of its employees.
The layoffs: ORDER is a prominent Oceanic org but it's evidently refocusing its efforts.
Employees were told in a remote meeting on June 30 that there were going to be layoffs, according to a report by James Fudge on July 7.
Several ORDER employees tweeted about the decision earlier this week and Fudge's report states that at least 12 staff members have been affected.
The reasoning behind the dismissals is yet to be revealed at the time of publication. Disorder Media House, a Melbourne-based "media house," owns and operates the esports team.
The landscape: It's not easy being an esports organization.
With esports organizations becoming publicly listed companies, the financial state of the industry has become increasingly clear over the past couple of years.
A recent example of this can be seen with Guild Esports, a British organization co-owned by David Beckham. Alongside announcing a loss of $6.1M (Β£5M GBP) for the six-month period ending March 31, it revealed that it has gone from 45 employees as of March 31 to 30 employees as of June 30.
