Role Purpose

The 3D Character Artist Intern will support the Character Art team by creating game-ready character assets based on provided concept art. The intern will follow the full character production workflow, from high-poly sculpting and low-poly retopology to UV unwrapping, PBR texturing, and final asset presentation. The role is designed to help the intern understand real production standards for stylized characters in video games.

Responsibilities

  • Create a stylized 3D character asset based on provided concept art.
  • Build a high-poly version of the character, focusing on forms, proportions, and readable silhouette.
  • Create a game-ready low-poly version through retopology, respecting the required triangle budget.
  • Unwrap UVs and prepare the asset for texturing.
  • Create PBR texture maps, including Color, Roughness, Metalness, Ambient Occlusion, and Normal Map.
  • Prepare and export the final asset in the required formats, including FBX, scene files, textures, and presentation screenshots/renders.
  • Receive and apply feedback from the mentor and art team during the production process.

  • How to optimize a character asset for real-time/game use while keeping a strong visual quality.
  • How to present a 3D asset professionally using screenshots, renders, or a real-time viewer.
  • How to receive, understand, and apply art feedback in a production environment.

Candidate Profile – Must Have

  • Basic understanding of 3D character creation workflows for games.
  • Basic knowledge of high-poly modeling/sculpting, low-poly modeling, UV unwrapping, and texturing.
  • Ability to follow concept art and maintain proportions, silhouette, and visual readability.
  • Familiarity with at least one industry-standard 3D software, such as 3ds Max and ZBrush.
  • Basic understanding of PBR texturing principles.
  • A portfolio or sample work showing 3D modeling, character art, sculpting, or texturing skills.
  • Motivation to learn, receive feedback, and improve throughout the internship.

Required Knowledge / Tools

  • 3ds Max, Maya, or another industry-standard 3D modeling tool.
  • ZBrush or similar sculpting software.
  • Substance Painter, Photoshop, or similar texturing tools.
  • Basic knowledge of PBR texture maps: Color, Roughness, Metalness, Ambient Occlusion, and Normal Map.
  • Basic knowledge of FBX export and asset presentation workflows.
  • Marmoset Toolbag or other rendering/presentation tools would be a plus.
