SAG-AFTRA approves 2025 Video Game Agreement ending strike amid concerns about use of AI

After nearly a year of striking, SAG-AFTRA members have overwhelmingly approved the 2025 Video Game Agreement, bringing the long-running dispute to an end. The deal includes major advancements in AI protections and improved compensation for video game performers.

The details:

  • The agreement introduces “safety guardrails” for AI, including mandatory consent and disclosure when using digital replicas, and the right for performers to withdraw consent during a strike, addressing previous concerns over “alarming loopholes” for AI abuse.

  • Alongside AI safeguards, the contract increases pay rates and boosts contributions to performers’ health and retirement plans.

  • The deal passed with 95.04% of votes in favor (participation rate not disclosed). SAG-AFTRA leaders, including Fran Drescher and Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, credited the solidarity and leadership of chair Sarah Elmaleh for securing “many essential gains.”
