Project Relic: A Korean indie studio’s spin on the Soulslike formula
The Relic was revealed as the first project of South Korean studio Project Cloud Games in 2021 under the codename "Project Relic," drawing heavy inspiration from the Dark Souls franchise.
Combat centered on precise timing and stamina maintenance will be familiar to fans of the Souls series. PCG, on the other hand, has chosen to speed up its combat slightly, adding a variety of additional abilities to weave into melee combos, adding another layer of discovering enemy weaknesses to direct counter tough opponents.
As is typical of many Korean action games, the developer appears to have taken FromSoftware's dark and gloomy visuals and added some flashy effects to various elements such as the player's weapon colliding with an opponent's armor, resulting in bright red sparks flying across the screen.
The game, like Dark Souls, will include multiplayer elements, allowing other players to either assist in PvE situations or engage in PvP. It's unclear how the modes will function, but an invasion/summon system seems likely.
Project Cloud Games stated in 2021 that it intends to release the title in 2023, but it appears likely that we will see it in 2024 at the earliest. It is expected to be launched across Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
