Mortal Kombat 1’s crash reports are taking up more than 1GB of space
Players have discovered that Mortal Kombat 1's crash logs are consuming large portions of their storage drives, with each file totaling nearly 2GB for each crash.
The details:
Back in September, Steam user LouRagou reported that NetherRealm's recently released fighting game had an issue with its crash logs, which are generated whenever the game crashes to allow developers to diagnose problems and address them in future patches. Normally, these files are only a few KBs in size as they contain random text, but MK1's logs were found to be around 1GB each.
This post appears to have gone unnoticed as it was never fixed, with LouRagou creating another post to share that a second folder relating to the crashes is also experiencing issues with excessively large reports, causing the total size of the logs to reach nearly 2GB. Unless they were warned about the bug in advance, players are likely to discover that they have a significant amount of drive space taken up by the files, such as @SirrafuS, who shared that they had 41.6GB worth of reports.
- User @X_AZEEZ3 shared the Steam posts on X, alerting Warner Bros. Games community manager Cory Taylor to the problem, which has now been escalated to the development team. Those who have crash reports can simply delete them from the following locations until NetherRealm fixes the issue soon:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\MK12\Saved\Steam\Crashes
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\CrashDumps
