"Holstin" is a pixel art psychological horror indie game set in 90s Poland
Are you ready to head to 90s Poland for some pixel art psychological horror action?
The makers of Holstin certainly hope so, with the demo of the new indie game just released to the Steam store and making waves on social media this past weekend.
Described as "a psychological survival horror game set in an eerie, isolated 90s Polish town consumed by an ominous presence" by Sonka, its developer, the title has been created in a super stylish isometric pixel art style.
You'll seek out your friend Bartek, who has mysteriously stopped answering your calls, by following in his footsteps to discover why he came to Jeziorne-Kolonia in the first place and to learn why he's unable to ever get out.
You'll need to navigate through streets that are "overrun by some kind of filthy slime" and fight for your life against people and wildlife who appear to be "deteriorating from the inside".
Scavenging and puzzling also play a large part in the game, though you'll need to rely on some of the locals to help you progress. With full voice acting in both English and Polish available, you'll be sucked into their manic minds as they lose their grip on reality.
All-in-all, Holstin looks like amazing fun to play. It offers hand-drawn pixel-art environments, 360-degree camera rotation, beautiful animation, and dynamic lighting, and its combat has really caught the eye since the Beta demo was released.
You're able to switch to an up-close and personal over-the-shoulder perspective as you take on the game's terrifying cast of enemies, using your hand-crafted weapons and bullets to try and survive to the end.
You can download the demo now and then follow the game's progress on X if you enjoy it.
Happy Holstining!
