It has been announced that the online services for 2021’s Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance will be shutting down in February and the game will be delisted from storefronts.

The details:

  • According to updates posted on both PC and console storefronts, the servers will be shut down on all platforms on February 2, 2025, and players will no longer be able to purchase the game in the future. This means that its multiplayer component will no longer function, but the base game and all DLC will remain fully playable in single player.

  • It is unclear why the Dark Alliance will be shutting down, but it is thought that, like many other games that have been pulled from sale, it may be due to the expiration of the Dungeons & Dragons license. However, fans have pointed out that the game was published by Wizards of the Coast, the owner of the Dungeons & Dragons IP, indicating that it could be something else such as the use of external assets.

  • Tuque Games developed Dark Alliance, which was viewed as a revival of the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series despite having no gameplay or story similarities. It was panned at launch for its large number of bugs, repetitive gameplay, and poor storytelling, and some of its major issues persist to this day.
