Hideo Kojima has stated that, while Death Stranding 2's final release date has been determined, it will not be revealed until next year due to "unforeseen circumstances."

The details:

  • During the Death Stranding Special Stage at the Tokyo Game Show (via VGC), Kojima confirmed that the game's release date has been set and the development team is "currently working on it in preparation." However, given the game's target release date of 2025, the director did confirm that we would learn more about it later next year.

  • While it is unclear why the release date was not revealed, it could be related to the number of high-profile launches planned for 2025, including Rockstar's long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI. We'll likely hear more in the first half of 2025 unless the game's release date is pushed back to 2026 or if Kojima Productions intends to launch the game soon after the announcement.

  • Death Stranding 2, subtitled “On the Beach,” was revealed back in late 2022 at The Game Awards. The trailer did not reveal much but confirmed that Norman Reedus would be returning as protagonist Sam Bridges, and Léa Seydoux would also make an appearance as Fragile.

  • The TGS Special Stage also featured a new 20-minute gameplay showcase featuring impressive visuals, as well as a look at a unique in-game photo shoot that will have a direct impact on the story. Kojima also confirmed that the game will include a dance performance by Japanese pop star Daichi Miura.
